I took piano lessons when I was real little. And you know... I hated it. But by the time I was in junior high, I had some kind of knowledge of the keyboards. In my very early years I played keyboards and bass.

My parents were very old school, as were my grandparents who went through the Great Depression and were a big influence on my life. So for them it was very important for me to have a college education and to pursue a normal job that would give me benefits and things like that. So they were very, very much opposed to me being a musician. They were all pretty horrified.
